THINKspirational Thursday: How To Handle Change

The word “change” can invoke a variety of reactions ranging from great to horrible. Change occurs in every aspect of our life – simple changes such as an Instagram update to impactful changes such as a new job. Don’t resist change, embrace it because this is the only way to continue growing. No matter what age you are, there are always learning opportunities. How will you be successful if you don’t grow? Use these moments to grow even stronger, become even more courageous and to develop hope for an even greater future.


Mindset
The reality is that we can’t prevent changes from happening, the only thing we can control is how we handle change. The first thing to remember is to remain calm. Freaking out will bring stress and many negative thoughts that can ruin your day. Have courage that everything will be okay. Stop resisting and start preparing. Create a mindset that will set you up for success, not failure. What type of mindset would that be then? A positive one. One where you’re excited to test your knowledge and abilities, and where you know the outcome will leave you in awe from everything you've accomplished.

You’ll be nervous and you’ll have doubts, but the key is not to dwell on it. Don’t freak out over the negative thoughts you’re experiencing, throw them in the back of your mind.

Pro’s / Con’s
Make a list of the pro’s and con’s about the change you’re going through. What are these changes doing to your life – Are they allowing you to grow as an individual? Are they preventing you from living a positive life? Throw out all of your thoughts onto paper so you can physically see the changes. Put effort into making this list by thinking of every possibility. Look at the situation with different perspectives and you’ll be able to construct a long, well-thought-out list.


Actions
Remember that you’re the only person who has control of your life. You can help yourself reach your goals or you can stop yourself from living a life you’re proud of. Have the physical and mental strength to make changes go in your favor. If you feel as if the changes you’re going through have more con’s than pro’s, fix it. Change the change. The changes are already happening so find the beauty in them by becoming confident in how you’ll handle it.

You can only move forward, so embrace the change with a hopeful mindset.
